The Force is Strong with Star Wars at the Toronto Fashion Week 2015

During this years Toronto Fashion Week, Disney Consumer Products in partnership with the Mercedes-Benz Start Up Competition hosted a design competition with a Star Wars theme. Six creative designers were tasked to put together a look inspired by that galaxy far far away. We see outfits here which were influenced by characters such as Princess Leia and Darth Vader.

The panel of judges which included Academy Award winner and set decorator, Roger Christian (who designed R2-D2 and the lightsaber) awarded designers José Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Bélanger of UNTTLD the winner with their design based on Slave Leia from ‘Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’. “We decided to empower Leia and bring back the chain and make a dress out of it that’s somewhat armour, somewhat very sexy,” said St-Jacques.

Peter Noonan of Disney Consumer Products Canada said;

“(It was) the beauty of it, the symmetry of it, the elegance of it. It would be something you would see at a holiday gala, but it wasn’t necessarily out of place. You could use different fabrications within that Princess Leia esthetic. It spoke to us that it was timeless.”

In addition to the cash award of $15,000 St-Jacques and Bélanger were also awarded their own commemorative lightsabers. Which one of these outfits do you think stands out the most? Also be sure to check out the video below from the Canadian Press Video News.
